The last couple of years took a lot from all of us. For some it was in the form of financial loss, important moments in people's lives were affected or ruined due to pandemic, while others suffered with extreme illness and some went through worse and lost their lives or their loved ones. However, thanks to the modern medicine and the people who support modern medicine, we were able to put up a fight against Covid. Our medical heroes did not give up and are still going strong, working tirelessly to control Covid and other diseases that we suffer from. What I am trying to point out is that last couple of years made me personally focus on how important medicine is. It’s imperative that we constantly, regardless of the pandemic fear, support our medical heroes in whatever way possible and take a collective approach towards a healthier future.
I recently learned about Cystic Fibrosis, and it was heart breaking to see how many children and people in general are affected by this disease. It was soul crushing to know how many children lost their lives and to know that the parents had their children taken away from them too soon. Cystic Fibrosis is a devastating genetic disease that affects the lungs and digestive system. More than ten million Americans are symptomless carriers of the defective CF gene. Advances continue to be made in finding a cure, but your help is needed now -- more than ever -- to help keep up the momentum of this life-saving research.
Sixty years ago, children with CF usually did not live long enough to attend elementary school. Today, because of Foundation-supported research and care, the life expectancy of people with CF who are born between 2015 and 2019 is predicted to be 46 years. Data also shows that of the babies who are born in 2019, half are predicted to live to be 48 years or older. This is remarkable progress, but not good enough. We continue to lose precious lives to CF every day. To learn more about CF and the CF Foundation, visit www.cff.org. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of those with cystic fibrosis.
