I will soon be honored by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation at the Connecticut's Finest event, Thursday, November 11th recognizing outstanding young professionals in my community. In accepting this distinction, I have committed to raise money to help the Foundation realize its mission of controlling and curing cystic fibrosis (CF).

Growing up I had heard about CF and always thought of it as a disease that was diagnosed at birth and thus something that children would have and may grow up dealing with. Later on, in watching some medical dramas I saw its portrayal and that those with CF were able to live with longer. Flash forward and I have been working in our Camp & Childcare Department at the Riverbrook Regional YMCA for six years when my great friend, mentor, and supervisor at the time was diagnosis with Cystic Fibrosis. This late in life diagnosis changed Aaron's whole world, including those of us in his Y family.

After learning about what CF really was, how it affected a person at any age and how challenging life becomes and is, we knew we wanted to help Aaron and the CF community. The summer following Aaron's retirement we dedicated our annual Staff vs. Director Football Game to him and turned it into a fundraiser. I am so grateful to our Camp families who continue to support us year after year as we raise funds for the CF Foundation while carrying on a tradition Aaron loved as part of Camp Gordyland. I love it when summer comes around because we get to see Aaron a bit more often as he drops off his campers and attends our CF Football or Kickball Game as we have had to transition to for the past two summers.

I hope that with this honor, the funds raised will continue to support this foundation which is leading the way in providing medication, research, education and support- fiscal, emotional, to the individuals and families affected by CF. Now, more than ever, when health and healthcare is such a need and priority for all, I hope that these donations will help continue to lead the way to someday soon when CF stands for Cure Found!

Please help me meet my fundraising goal by making a donation. Your generous gift will be used efficiently and effectively to help support vital CF research, medical and education programs.

Making a donation is easy and secure! Just click the Donate button on this page to make a donation that will be credited to my fundraising efforts. Any amount you can donate will be greatly appreciated!

Cystic fibrosis is a devastating genetic disease that affects the lungs and digestive system. More than ten million Americans are symptomless carriers of the defective CF gene. Advances continue to be made in finding a cure, but your help is needed now -- more than ever -- to help keep up the momentum of this life-saving research. Sixty years ago, children with CF usually did not live long enough to attend elementary school. Today, because of Foundation-supported research and care, the median survival age of people with CF is about 40. This is remarkable progress, but not good enough. We continue to lose precious lives to CF every day. To learn more about CF and the CF Foundation, visit www.cff.org. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of those with cystic fibrosis. Thank you for supporting the mission of the CF Foundation!
