I guess I sort of right swiped my way into joining the CF community around Halloween 2017. After moving back to Orange County from Fort Worth, Texas, I met my girlfriend, Tori. During our very first date, she told me how important cystic fibrosis was to her family. I also learned about her favorite person, her younger brother, Wes. Tori mentioned that he runs and cycles a bit, competes in triathlons, and was training for an Ironman.

On the list of most inspirational people I've ever met, he's up at the top of the list. Wes will tell you that he thinks being in peak physical condition is one of the main reasons he stays pretty healthy most of the time. I admire how Wes doesn't let CF hold him back, like at all, with anything, and would probably prefer if you didn't try to coddle him. I've 'raced' in 2 half marathons with Wes in the last year. After finishing about an hour behind him in each one, let's just say that the only thing I might ever be in the same weight class with him is in post race meal eating and enjoying.

I'm proud to join OC's Finest class of 2019 to support my friend Wes, his family, and other CF fighters. I hope that by participating in the event, I am able to learn more about cystic fibrosis, and get to know other positive, like-minded individuals who have a connection to the organization.

I will soon be honored by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation at a special event recognizing outstanding young professionals in my community. In accepting this distinction, I have committed to raise money to help the Foundation realize its mission of controlling and curing cystic fibrosis (CF).

Please help me meet my fundraising goal by making a donation. Your generous gift will be used efficiently and effectively to help support vital CF research, medical and education programs.

Cystic fibrosis is a devastating genetic disease that affects the lungs and digestive system. More than ten million Americans are symptomless carriers of the defective CF gene. Advances continue to be made in finding a cure, but your help is needed now -- more than ever -- to help keep up the momentum of this life-saving research. Sixty years ago, children with CF usually did not live long enough to attend elementary school. Today, because of Foundation-supported research and care, the median survival age of people with CF is about 40. This is remarkable progress, but not good enough. We continue to lose precious lives to CF every day. To learn more about CF and the CF Foundation, visit cff.org. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of those with cystic fibrosis. Thank you for supporting the mission of the CF Foundation!
