I am honored to recognized by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation as a DFW's Finest honoree, at a special event recognizing outstanding professionals in our community. For me, this honor is especially meaningful because of the connection I have to the CF community through my work as a pediatric dietitian.
Every day, I have the privilege of caring for children with cystic fibrosis alongside an incredible multidisciplinary team. I love being a part of a group of providers who come together to care for the kiddo and support families through their CF journey. As a dietitian, I know nutrition is just one piece of their care, but it is a piece that can have a meaningful impact on growth, health and quality of life.
Being a DFW's Finest honoree gives me the opportunity to support an organization whose mission is so important to the patients and families I serve. In accepting this distinction, I have committed to raise money to help the Foundation realize its mission of curing cystic fibrosis and providing all people with CF the opportunity to lead long, fulfilling lives.
Nearly 40,000 people in the United States have cystic fibrosis: a progressive, genetic disease that affects the lungs, pancreas, and other organs. Sixty years ago, children with CF usually did not live long enough to attend elementary school. Today, because of Foundation-supported research and care, the median survival age of people with CF is over 50. Working alongside the CF community, the CF Foundation has fostered the development of more than a dozen CF treatments and helped add decades of life for people with CF. But there is still work to be done. Not everyone with CF benefit from existing therapies. Our vision is a cure for every person with cystic fibrosis – a life free from the burden of this disease – and we will not leave anyone behind.
