My name is Claire Schmidt, and I am honored to be selected as one of Cystic Fibrosis Capital City’s Finest! This event helps to raise funds and awareness for the CF Foundation in Baton Rouge. Cystic Fibrosis has been a charitable cause close to my heart for many years due to our connection with a family who has two children with CF. For years I have been able to watch their children undergo multiple treatment regimens including enzyme pills, breathing treatments/vest therapy, and even hospitalizations. I feel very blessed to have been educated on this disease, and become a part of the CF fundraising family. It is miraculous to see money we have personally raised fund medications that are now changing the lives of people I love with CF. I am excited to continue my fundraising effort in a new avenue and continue to bring awareness to Cystic Fibrosis! Please help me meet my fundraising goal, in efforts to continue to fund lifesaving treatment for people living with CF!

Nearly 40,000 people in the United States have cystic fibrosis: a progressive, genetic disease that affects the lungs, pancreas, and other organs. Sixty years ago, children with CF usually did not live long enough to attend elementary school. Today, because of Foundation-supported research and care, the median survival age of people with CF is over 50. Working alongside the CF community, the CF Foundation has fostered the development of more than a dozen CF treatments and helped add decades of life for people with CF. Yet, many people with CF do not benefit from existing therapies. Our vision is a cure for every person with cystic fibrosis – a life free from the burden of this disease – and we will not leave anyone behind.
