I am proud to be one of this year's Cystic Fibrosis New York Elite honorees. New York's Elite is a group of leaders from the Metro NY area who are committed to professional growth connected through our shared goal of finding a cure for CF. We are conducting a fundraising and awareness campaign that benefits the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, whose core mission is to find a cure for CF.
Nearly 40,000 people in the United States have cystic fibrosis: a progressive, genetic disease that affects the lungs, pancreas, and other organs. Sixty years ago, children with CF usually did not live long enough to attend elementary school. Today, because of Foundation-supported research and care, the median survival age of people with CF is over 50. Working alongside the CF community, the CF Foundation has fostered the development of more than a dozen CF treatments and helped add decades of life for people with CF. Yet, many people with CF do not benefit from existing therapies. Our vision is a cure for every person with cystic fibrosis – a life free from the burden of this disease – and we will not leave anyone behind.
My Personal Connection to CF:
My brother, Johnny, is a CF patient. He has battled CF with grit and grace every day of his life and continues to do so with strength. He greets the challenges of CF like a champ. He is my best friend and #1 inspiration.
Johnny is also a part of the 10% of people with CF ineligible for current life gene modulators and life changing treatments due to his specific mutation of CF. This makes fundraising especially meaningful to my family and I.
When I moved to New York in 2022, I began seeking out ways to get more involved with the CF Foundation. I quickly joined Tomorrow's Leader's, CF's Young professionals group where I found a way to make meaningful connections with others who are on a mission to find a cure for CF. I began fundraising through CF's Breathe Team in 2023 in the United Airlines NYC Half Marathon and also fundraised for the Breathe Team in 2024 for the NYC Marathon.
New York's Elite represents a unique opportunity to help raise money and awareness for CF.
I am determined to help in any way I can to support new drug discoveries that work for all CF patients. The developments to date are extremely encouraging, but the work is not done yet. Fundraising is critical to this effort. Please consider helping me on this mission!
Emily Rose is a Strategy Consultant at Accenture, focused on Growth Strategy and AI-led digital transformation. She helps companies rethink their core business models and operational strategies to effectively integrate AI at scale. Emily holds a Bachelor of Arts from Princeton University and is actively involved as a member of CF’s Tomorrow’s Leaders.
