ABOUT ME
Prior to getting involved with the foundation, I had little to no knowledge about the disease. As a Rochester's Finest honoree, I've learned so much about cystic fibrosis and how it affects people's daily lives. I am honored to raise money to help the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation fund its mission to find a cure for cystic fibrosis (CF) and provide all people with CF the opportunity to lead long, fulfilling lives.
WHAT IS CYSTIC FIBROSIS?
Nearly 40,000 people in the United States have cystic fibrosis: a progressive, genetic disease affecting the lungs, pancreas, and other organs. People with CF lack the gene that allows movement of salt and water in and out of cells. This leads to a buildup of thick, sticky mucus in tubes and passageways, particularly in the lungs and digestive system. Although CF is incurable, treatments involve focus on symptom management
Thanks to Foundation-supported research and care, the median survival age of people with CF has increased from childhood to over 40 years of age. Our vision is a cure for every person with cystic fibrosis – a life free from the burden of this disease.
