Please join the Palm Beach Chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation for "Rock the Roses."
Rock the Roses will honor and recognize the areas most accomplished, innovative, and emerging young leaders and business professionals. The event will recognize ten (15) of Palm Beach’s Finest Honorees—young leaders and innovators who are between the ages of 21 - 45 and are competitively selected based on their exemplary leadership, business and professional successes, spheres of influence, and philanthropic spirit. Honorees commit to raising a minimum of $2,500 for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. They are given the opportunity to highlight their commitment and professional achievements within the community and are also invited to ongoing networking and professional development events throughout the campaign. There are incentives for the “top” fundraising Honoree.
The Palm Beach Chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation has held this event for the past 23 years (previously named “Arthur’s Jam”). It was named after Arthur Weiss who was the first son of Mary Weiss, founder of this chapter, to pass away from cystic fibrosis (CF) in 1996 at the age of 36. It was created by his friends as a way of celebrating Arthur’s life and his two loves – Rock and Roll and cars. To support the legacy of this event, we are very excited to have Arthur Weiss’s daughter, Amelia Weiss, as our Honorary Chair. Rock and Roll is a part of this event because it was one of Arthur’s loves. Now what many of you may or may not know is the importance of the roses. Mary and Harry Weiss moved their 3 boys to Florida after finding out that all 3 had been diagnosed with CF. Mary began fundraising from her home, making phone calls to raise money in search of a cure. Mary's four-year-old son, Richard, listened closely to his mother as she made each call. After several calls, Richard came into the room and told his mom, "I know what you are working for." Mary was dumbstruck because Richard did not know what she was doing, nor did he know that he had CF. With some trepidation, Mary posed the question back to Richard, "What am I working for, Richard?" "You are working for 65 Roses," he answered so sweetly. This is the story behind the international logo of “65 Roses” for CF.
