Welcome! My name is Crystal.
I'm a volunteer with the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation of South Carolina. I am a former South Carolina's Finest honoree and a committee member on the 2021 program.
I have a sibling who was born with Cystic Fibrosis.
I first got involved with the Foundation in 2018. That year I welcomed my second child. Starting my own family deepened my appreciation for human fragility and time.
CF is a devastating and deeply affecting disease. The average life expectancy for those with CF is currently 37.5 years. My sibling turns 30 this year. This was one of the motivations for me to take on a greater role with the Foundation and their mission to cure CF.
With the support and research led by the Foundation, I am hopeful that my children will have more than 7.5 years with their uncle.
If you have landed on my page, I hope that you will consider making a donation. Your generous gift will be used efficiently and effectively to help support vital CF research, medical and education programs.
Making a donation is easy and secure! Just click the Donate button on this page to make a donation. Any amount you can donate will be greatly appreciated!
Thank you, Crystal M. Brown
What is Cystic Fibrosis?
Cystic fibrosis is a devastating genetic disease that affects the lungs and digestive system. More than ten million Americans are symptomless carriers of the defective CF gene. Advances continue to be made in finding a cure, but your help is needed now -- more than ever -- to help keep up the momentum of this life-saving research. Sixty years ago, children with CF usually did not live long enough to attend elementary school. Today, because of Foundation-supported research and care, the median survival age of people with CF is about 40. This is remarkable progress, but not good enough. We continue to lose precious lives to CF every day. To learn more about CF and the CF Foundation, visit cff.org. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of those with cystic fibrosis. Thank you for supporting the mission of the CF Foundation!
What is South Carolina's Finest?
Finest honorees demonstrate leadership, excel in their profession, and have a philanthropic spirit. These remarkable individuals are competitively selected and are among the most influential people in communities throughout South Carolina.
Honorees will participate in a 4 month program that involves virtual events with current and past honorees, civic/philanthropic leaders, and professional development learning tracks-- all while supporting the mission of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. The program will culminate in October to celebrate their success.
[July 14] Honorees had the opportunity to get a virtual tour of the MUSC CF Care Center in Charleston, SC. Here's a throwback to my tour when I was an Honoree with the CF Care Team in Greenville, SC.
[June 15] South Carolina's Finest 2021 Kickoff! I was so honored to speak with special guest and 2021 Ambassador, Rachel Weintraub. In a Mission Moment, Rachel shared her own experiences of living with CF. Listen at 42:40: https://bit.ly/3kzdWC5
