Hi all!
I am excited to share that I am being honored as one of Milwaukee's Finest by the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in their 12th year of recognizing outstanding professionals in the community and building awareness around CF.
In accepting this distinction, I have committed to raise money to help the Foundation realize its mission of curing cystic fibrosis (CF) and providing all people with CF the opportunity to lead long, fulfilling lives, including my little sister Kelci.
Nearly 40,000 people in the United States have cystic fibrosis: a progressive, genetic disease that affects the lungs, pancreas, and other organs. One of those 40,000 people is my 18-year-old sister, Kelci. Kelci was born with CF and has been through countless hospital stays, trials, medications, and treatments to keep her healthy over the years.
Sixty years ago, children with CF usually did not live long enough to attend elementary school. Today, because of Foundation-supported research and care, the median survival age of people with CF is over 50. Working alongside the CF community, the CF Foundation has fostered the development of more than a dozen CF treatments and helped add decades of life for people with CF. In 2019, my sister was one of the first patients from Children's Wisconsin to be administered Trikafta, a modulator drug that improves overall lung function. My family and I are so thankful for the CF Foundation and its continued work in providing new treatments and a better life for patients like Kelci.
Yet, many people with CF do not benefit from existing therapies. Our vision is a cure for every person with cystic fibrosis – a life free from the burden of this disease – and we will not leave anyone behind.
